HITCHED 2023 AWARD WINNING WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
WOW!
So on Tuesday, when I was out walking Rufus (my fox red lab) an email landed from Hitched.co.uk to say that I’d won an award and I can now claim to be a Hitched Award Winning Wedding Photographer.
Wedding Photography Awards
Now, photography awards mean nothing to me. These are the awards where you submit an image to a judging panel, and you either win or you don’t. These types of photography awards are often paid awards (so you have to be a paid member to enter) and are incredibly subjective.
A friend of mine submitted an image to a monthly awards body for 15 months in a row, the image did not win for 15 months and then in the 16th month it did. Was the image better in month 16? Nope, it was the same image, the same moment captured, the same lighting, the same edit; it was the same image from month 1 to month 16. So what changed in month 16? The people judging for that month liked the image, and the previous judges didn’t.
I am a member of one subscription photography group, This is Reportage, and I love what Alan Law does with This is Reportage; I love the focus on documentary images, and even though I pay to play and I can enter the awards, I never do as I don’t think that winning a photography award makes any difference to me or the couples who book me to be their wedding photographer.
Wedding photography awards are solely for photographers and are judged by other photographers.
Why Are The Hitched Awards Different?
The Hitched awards are not judge based; they are based on actual wedding couples who have gone out of their way to leave reviews. I’m so proud of the reviews that my couples have written, not only on Hitched but also on Google. There is a theme to all the reviews that my couples have left for me and that’s something that I’m very proud of.
